ORIGIN AND TERROIR

The grapes come from our vineyards in the eastern Wachau. The soils in these sites are characterized by deep, nutrient-rich loess layers with a stony subsoil. The region’s climate is shaped by the fringes of the Pannonian climate zone, while also being influenced by cool nighttime air currents from the northern Waldviertel. Additionally, the Danube contributes to pronounced day–night temperature variations and at the same time has a moderating effect on the regional microclimate.

VINIFICATION

The grapes were selectively hand-harvested, gently destemmed in the cellar, and subjected to a classic maceration fermentation. After fermentation, the wine remained on the skins for a further three weeks before being pressed. Malolactic fermentation took place concurrently with the alcoholic fermentation.
The young red wine was then matured in stainless steel tanks before being transferred in spring into used 500 L and 300 L oak barrels, where it aged for 12 months. After this maturation period, the wine was finally bottled.

TASTING NOTES

Brilliant ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, fine and elegant, with herbal spice, subtle savory nuances, and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, refined and complex, featuring raspberries, ripe cherries, and berry confit, complemented by delicate smoky and woody notes. Velvety tannins and a saline-mineral finish provide structure and vibrancy. An elegant, lively wine that pairs beautifully with food but also impresses on its own.

Food and Drink Recommendations

This Pinot Noir pairs excellently with roasted poultry, beef fillet, lamb, or hearty braised dishes. Mushroom dishes, grilled vegetables, and mildly aged cheeses also complement its elegant structure and silky tannins. For optimal expression, a brief decanting and serving in a large glass is recommended. Best served at 16–18 °C.
